Do you like live wallpapers on Android? Do you like the video above and want to know how to use videos as wallpaper? Then check this out I think you will like it. In this post I’m gonna show you how to enable video wallpapers for Windows Seven.

It’s nothing new we’ve been using it on Windows since 2005. Back in time Microsoft called it DreamScene and it first featured in Windows Vista Ultimate edition. So can you have it under Windows Seven? Yes and even regardless of your copy like you know Home, Premium, Professional, Ultimate etc. DreamScene is hidden within your system you just need to know how to enable it. There’s no software installation required to do so.

There are two ways to do it first one is long and a bit complicated. I think it’s not for everyone to play around with Windows Registry Editor and .DLL files so let’s get on the shortest-simplest way:

  • Download this tool from Softpedia “Windows 7 DreamScene Activator 1.1.exe” It is not a virus, malware or any other blabla-ware. Otherwise it’d not be on Softpedia anyway. (It’s just an exe file written by a coder to make things easy for you.)
  • Right click on “Windows 7 DreamScene Activator 1.1” and select “Run as Administrator”
  • You will have the “Enable DreamScene” button available for you click on it and let it do the job. (Disable button will be available after it’s done as it is on my system)

  • So what now? Right click on your desktop you will have DreamScene play/pause option enabled. Congratulations but we’re not done yet.

  • You need a video to play as your desktop wallpaper. Here’s an example you can download from Mediafire.com (same video btw). Next, simply right click on the video and select the proper action as shown below

That’s it you got it.

Now I will list few facts you MUST know about videos and DreamScene. As I mentioned DreamScene is a Windows native feature, comes with the benefit it does not stress your CPU instead uses GPU.

  • Smaller the video file-size (megabytes) better the Windows performance
  • 720p video is suitable for most screen resolution, beyond that (1080p) you will just add extra job on your GPU and does it necessary? No.
  • Videos must be .WMV file format. It’s a Microsoft restriction. For example you can’t use AVI or MPEG videos as wallpaper. WMV is a native video file format for Windows better in terms of computer performance.
  • If you have questions about how to convert video files to different file types, roll them to my Ask or Contact.
  • Another Microsoft restriction either video has sound or not: DreamScene mutes it.
  • Remember to Pause DreamScene when you run your computer on battery power, or before running 3D games. Although there will be a new option available under Advanced Power Options

P.S I found that example video on Calm.com and it’s been my wallpaper for months. I thought some of you might like and I wanted to share the idea. That’s how this post came out hope you enjoyed.
